FAQ's

• The paint flow keeps reducing while I am spraying but the gravity cup is full, why is this?

  • There are 2 small holes in the lid of the gravity cup which allow air to enter the cup as the paint level reduces. If one or both of this holes are blocked then paint flow will be reduced and eventually stop all together.

• I have lost the spring clip that holds the air cap in its ring, can I still use it?

  • Yes you can, the clip is only there to avoid the cap falling from its retaining ring which could cause unnecessary damage.

• What is the correct way to fit the gravity paint filter, KGP-5?

  • The filter should be picked up by the small stem and then inserted in the stainless steel fitting on the gravity cup, with the open end of the filter facing into the cup. Then the cup can be safely screwed in the gun.

• My air cap is difficult to align when it is fitted to the gun, what would cause this?

  • After prolonged use the air cap and retaining can be contaminated internally, which may not be visible. Remove the spring clip from the rear of the air cap to allow better access to any hidden paint build up.

• Some of the small holes on the air cap are blocked, what is the best way to clean them?

  • We recommend the use of our gun maintenance kit, KK-4584, which includes all the necessary tools to help keep your gun in tip top condition. Alternatively use a wooden toothpick, which will not damage the air cap.

• My gun keeps fluttering like it's run out of paint but it hasn’t, can you help?

  • This problem occurs when air is being drawn into the fluid passageway. The main cause of this is a loose fluid tip. Re-tighten the tip using the correct spanner.

• I have taken the front of my GTi Pro apart to give it a good clean, do I need to replace the white gasket that fits into the gun every time?

  • The gasket is reusable and therefore does not need to be replaced each time you clean the gun, but make sure it is not damaged before refitting and replace if necessary.

• What is the best air cap to spray waterborne basecoat?

  • All of the GTi Pro air caps have paint company approvals for the application of waterborne basecoats. Please refer to our paint data sheets on this website for each individual recommendation.

• You mention that 2.0 bar is the correct inlet pressure. Is this measured when the gun is fully triggered?

  • There is very little difference to the inlet pressure whether you half or fully trigger our sprayguns, unlike some of our competitors, so either method is correct.

• If I use a DGi to set my gun up what do I do with the air control valve that is fitted in the gun handle?

  • Make sure that the air flow control valve is left fully open; this will ensure that the DGi is reading the correct pressure.

• What do the letters HVLP stand for and what does is mean?

  • High Volume Low Pressure, this refers the air cap pressure and the amount of air volume the gun consumes. By limiting the air cap pressure to 10 PSI (or 0.7 Bar) it produces less overspray therefore making the gun more efficient.

• My primer gun has a 1.8mm fluid tip fitted, can I spray etch primer with it?

  • Because etch primers are normally lower in viscosity, a 1.8mm tip maybe too large. You can adjust the fluid control knob on your spraygun, which will reduce the fluid flow, or you can simply fit a smaller fluid tip, which will achieve the same result.

• We use disposable cups on our GTi Pro’s and have found them wasting small amount of paint, is this normal?

  • Some disposable cup systems do not fully collapse during use and can trap a small amount of paint. Try our DeKup system which has been designed to improve this issue and will help you save some money.

• I have been advised to change my air cap to help with a paint problem, do I have to buy a complete kit or can I just change the air cap?

  • All DeVilbiss air caps are available as an individual spare part and can be changed without the need to change the tip and needle. Some of our competitors do not allow this flexibility.

• I am interested in buying a new DGi pod and was wondering if it is difficult to install?

  • The DGi Pod can be fitted in seconds. Using the spanner supplied with the GTi Pro (or another 14 mm spanner) remove the spreader valve from the top of the gun, insert the pod into the same hole and re-tighten with your spanner. And you are good to go!

• I have purchased a PRO-415-1 service kit for my GTi Pro and I have some parts that don’t seem to be needed.

  • The PRO-415-1 kit services the whole of the ‘i-system Pro’ family, GTi Pro, PRi Pro and SRi Pro and therefore there is an air seal from the SRi Pro included in the kit.

• I have cleaned the front of my GTi Pro and I have removed a grey plastic part from the baffle. Does it matter which way I refit it?

  • This deflector plate, SN-41-K, can be fitted either way round.

• Somebody used my primer gun and left 2 pack primer in it. Can I put the gun into paint stripper to help clean it out?

  • You can, but try limiting the paint stripper to the areas only where the paint has solidified. If you immerse the whole gun in paint stripper you could damage some of the internal parts.

• The fan adjusting valve doesn’t seem to work on my SRi, I turn it all the way in but the fan doesn’t change shape, what could be wrong?

  • Behind the fluid tip should be plastic air seal, if this is damaged or missing then the fan control will not work correctly.

• My GTi needle doesn’t say what size tip it fits, can you help?

  • There is only one fluid needle for the whole range of different fluid tip sizes so it has no designated size, one size fits all.
